Improving health and social care
Our priority is to improve the public’s experience of health and social care and to improve outcomes - what happens to people as a result of the care they receive.
As well as making sure essential common quality standards are in place through our registration system, we help to drive up improvements across health and social care through our regular and special reviews and our assessments of commissioning. These cover how well organisations provide services directly to the public and how well organisations commission (buy, arrange or make sure services are available locally) services. Each year our special reviews look at different aspects of care. They are guided by what people tell us is important to them.
This information helps people to see how well their local services perform, compare different providers and find quality care services.
We encourage improvements in services by helping to identify and share good practice.
A priority for us is to look at how well health or social care services are working together to improve services for the people who use them. In our first year our special reviews will look at areas we think need attention. Some areas we will look at are, for example, how well the physical health needs of people with mental health problems and learning disabilities are being met, or whether people in care homes are well looked after in terms of their health care needs.
